Who are We?
All of us have dreams, some are ongoing, some come and go. A recurring dream for many of us is the hope of going somewhere new and starting afresh; the dream might be driven by a desire to enjoy warm sunshine, live close to the sea, or simply dining al fresco on fresh salads.
Often it's a fear of learning new languages, leaving elderly loved ones that perhaps make us uneasy about putting such dreams into practice. But mostly the reason for the dream to remain a wish unfulfilled is uncertainty. Not quite knowing how to go about it, not knowing of someone who can lend an experienced helping hand to fill in and answer those questions is the driver of this uncertainty.
Jobs, housing, cost of living, schooling for the children, these are just some of the questions that come tumbling over themselves seeking answers.
Undoubtedly Australia and New Zealand will be forever greatest in the appeal to those who want to start anew, so having someone at the bottom of the world to help you to settle would be the answer to those dreams. Someone who knows what it is like to live there, someone who has children like yourself in the school system, who has done it all through having emigrated out a few years before you and so can help you navigate this amazing journey you want to embark on.
Fanciful? Not at all. In 2004, mother of 5, Nicola Mills was asked to help a friend of a friend move to Christchurch, New Zealand from the UK. She enjoyed the experience so much that she wanted to help other migrants relocate to New Zealand so with more enthusiasm than money 4Greenhouses Ltd was born. The inspiration for the name were the houses on a Monopoly board, not growing tomatoes! First up on a list of things to do was the creation of a website offering to help others. Success followed for 4Greenhouses as it tapped in to a demand that had lain hidden and the business has now evolved in to Downunder Welcome Ltd.
The company has grown steadily and now has relocation specialists in New Zealand, (Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Rotorua and Whangarei ) and in Australia, (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth) to help new comers.
“In addition to our information service, we can arrange accommodation, car hire, customised city tours, help with banking, pensions and foreign exchange through partnerships with Broadbase International and HIFX, tax numbers and more. Migrants to our countries need to talk with other migrants, especially in the beginning when everything is so new and exciting -they want to talk with those going through the same experiences as them. Downunder Welcome organise free coffee mornings and BBQ's to help you settle quickly and easily into your new country, it is all just part of the service we offer,” explains Nicola
